A Visit to Cedar Creek Estate Winery

July 23, 2013 at 10:28 AM

A few weeks back, I took the opportunity to toast the beginning of summer at Cedar Creek Estate Winery. As this was my first visit to the local winery, I took the time to take in the scenery, the overall ambiance and of course, taste this year's delicious releases.

BBQ Lunch

Accompanied by my spouse, we were greeted by a friendly hostess who led us to the open patio area adjacent to the event pavilion overlooking the lake. After surveying the set-up we decided to partake in the simple, yet delicious BBQ menu that Cedar Creek has developed especially for the summer. A less pretentious menu, this daily menu, developed exclusively for the summer months, offered a choice between chicken souvlaki, gourmet cheeseburger, or ribs, all served with Caesar salad. A kid's burger was also on the menu served with a bag of chips and of course, a menu of choice wines and Boylan soda.

Once we had ordered, we happily chose a seat at one of the classy bistro sets underneath the open lattice covered patio and enjoyed a glass of Cedar Creek's Riesling. The lunch was simple but tasty and made for a relaxed introduction to the winery.

Finishing our lunch, we took a stroll through the grounds and listened in on a tour group to learn more about Cedar Creek. Then, it was time to visit the wine shop.

We were treated to a private wine tasting hosted by a knowledgeable member of the team who walked us through the line of new releases and award-winning vintages.

A few of the highlights included a well-balanced 2010 Shiraz Cabernet blend with cherry notes and some lasting tannins on the finish. This gold-medal winner in the 2013 All Canadian Wine Festival and the Spring Okanagan Festival was one of my favorites of the tasting as it had a nice finish and is an easy drinking wine.

2009 Platinum Meritage

Another "show stopper" of the day was Cedar Creek's smooth 2009 Meritage.

Combining an award-winning 5 varietals: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, this hand-harvested Platinum vintage was sourced almost exclusively from Osoyoos and aged for 20 months inFrench oak. Coffee and black currants make up the nose with a slight spice and delicious ripe fruit on the palate. This smooth, deep purple blend was a delicious surprise especially for my husband, who is leary of reds. Definitley a must-have for your cellar.

Prior to this visit I had the pleasure of tasting Cedar Creek's Riesling, which I enjoy immensely, but was extremely impressed with the Viognier on this visit as well as the divine 2007 "M".

2012 Platinum Viognier

The 2012 Platinum Viognier is unique in that it was fermented in what Cedar Creek affectionately calls "The Egg". The Egg is a 660 liter concrete fermenter that allows the wine to breathe, age and develop beautifully as concrete is a neutral substance imparting no added flavour to the wine. The Viognier was a successful experiment that resulted in a delicious apricot and honeysuckle infused vintage. This smooth, delicately balanced wine sang on both our palates and we promptly added it to our must-have list.

Finally, to end the tasting, we were treated to one of Cedar Creek's shining stars and one-of-a-kind vintages: the 2007 Platinum "M". This amber beauty left a delicious finish on our palates leaving us wanting more! Made exclusively from 100% Pinot Blanc, “M”, is the only Madeira-style wine produced in the Okanagan Valley. Placed in small casks and left to bake naturally under the hot Okanagan

2007 Platinumsun, this wine was aged for 5 years, mimicking the traditional Madeira-style of fermentation. While Cedar Creek's Madeira does not cross the equator twice (as was required hundreds of years ago to be considered a true Madeira), the process is the same as modern day Madeira's being developed. After the fermentaion process, the "M" is fortified with alcohol to 7% residual sugar making it a perfect dessert wine. The beautifully balanced sweet nectar is punctuated with a unique mid-palate hint of hazelnut and has a delightfully long finish. With a limited amount of cases produced, I strongly recommend adding it to your cellar.

Visiting Cedar Creek on a beautiful summer day was a delightful experience overall-we can't wait to visit again! Special thanks to Lee for the hospitality!

Good! Francois is in better position to answer this question, because he owned the site and many others like that. But It seems one will pay a sum to feature a website on that site; but he may give consideration for you as a broadcaster of African dormens.Cheias. http://wdkflu.com lsggkip [link=http://prfmdmwjg.com]prfmdmwjg[/link]
