Winter in BC Wine Country

November 29, 2014 at 8:00 PM

This past week saw the arrival of winter in BC wine country in the form of a beautiful blanket of snow. The white crystals have added a magical quality to the already breathtaking vineyards, and brought with it the promise of the holiday season that is upon us.

While fall harvest marked the end of the wine season in most people's minds, winemakers are still hard at work monitoring and tweaking their wines, preparing for the holiday season, and hosting special events over the course of the next month.

Kicking off the holiday season on Saturday, November 29th and Sunday, November 30th is the 4th annual Light up the Vines event hosted by the wineries found on Bottleneck Drive in Summerland. Free wine tastings, holiday promos, prizes, and a colorful holiday-inspired light display along the vines make this event a great intro to the Christmas season.

Also on November 29th-30th is the annual Winter in Wine Country event in Oliver/Osoyoos. Test out wine and food pairings, enjoy singing Christmas carols, savoring holiday treats, visiting local tasting rooms, and taking advantage of special holiday promotions all while enjoying the spectacular decor and light displays.

Other events featuring local wineries this season include the Bottega Christmas Market & Art Show. Showcasing local artisans, musicians and crafters, local wineries such as Cedar Creek Estate Winery, this Christmas market is a wonderful way to embrace the local artistic scene and get some unique gifts for the artsy people on your list. The market takes place on Saturday, November 29th & Sunday, November 30th at Bottega Farm Inn & Studio.

The Okanagan Falls Winery Association is also hosting their Holiday Cheer Open House weekend on Saturday, November 29th to Sunday, November 30th. Twelve participating wineries will be showcasing their wines, special treats, and holiday promotions from 11am-5pm each day. Enjoy touring these 12 wineries while participating in the photo scavenger hunt for your chance to win a private wine tour for two!

Sip into the Season on Sunday, December 7th is another great holiday wine event to take in this season. Each of the participating wineries along the Westside Wine Trail will be showcasing local artisans, crafters and holiday-inspired treats. Taste and savor wine and treats on this self-guided afternoon tour.

Tinhorn Creek is continuing their weekly Tuesday night Communal Dinners until the end of the year at the Miradoro Restaurant with a different theme featured each week. Reservations are required and book up quickly, so, be sure to reserve your place at this one of a kind dining experience.

Other wineries throughout the Okanagan Valley also continue to host open houses and special holiday events throughout the month of December. Be sure to check out their respective websites found here to discover more holiday themed events or to contact your favorite wineries regarding their holiday hours and specials. Also, it's the perfect time to take advantage of holiday specials for your favorite wines.

MarcoOf course the silly thing (that many might not realize) is that &#ni61;Pe8nsylvan2a Dutch’ has NOTHING to do with the Netherlands. In fact, is has everything to do with Germany, or Deutsch(land). I wonder if Dwight from the Office is Pennsylvanian Dutch He does speak the language and seems to be a farmer (like much of these people originally were I think) I have to say though, I do like the taste of the regular bread. It’s sweeter than what we usually have here.
