The success and overwhelming popularity of Hainle Vineyards’ Zweigelt releases over the past years has led the winery team to use this native Austrian red grape variety as a defining influence in two blends. First came our “Z3,” made up of Pinot Noir, Zweigelt and Merlot, which is already garnering high praise. Next in line was our “Z2” in 2003 made with our very young Zweigelt and our Cabernet Sauvignon, then our 2007 Z 2 now made with our mature Zweigelt and our Pinot Noir. All wines have been a great success which inspired us to use the fruit-forward and racy character of the Zweigelt in our Z series Rose’.

Zweigelt grapes from our Deep Creek Vineyards were harvested between Oct. 27th and Nov. 1st, at an average sugar level of 24.1%, and then separated from the rest of the juice to ferment and produce this Rose’. It was then fermented in stainless steel tanks where it stayed an extended amount of time on the lees ("sur lie" contact) for 7 months. There was yeast left in the wine when bottled in order to create a natural fermentation in the bottle and make this a sparkling Rose'. The Zweigelt was grown at our Deep Creek Vineyard 3 km south of our winery. Hainle Vineyards’ cellar practices and Vineyards are certified organic (PACS certification # T-16-412 and comply to internationally accepted organic food processing guidelines and in compliance to our family wine purity law of 1856.

The Z-Rose provides the top notes of grapefruit, strawberries, raspberries and green apples with a lingering impression of fruit on the palate. The fermentation was slowed naturally by cooling down the wine in order to keep a rest sweetness of sugar in the wine and controll the bottle fermentation.

The wine is a beautiful refreshing summer wine which should be enjoyed with friends at a party, on the patio or just with some appetisers, yet it is serious enough to be paired with many foods as well. Cellared at a cool temperature it should last 5 to 7 years.

Bottling: July 2009, 215 cases. 13.4% alc/vol, 2.0 g/l residual sugar (semi dry), 6.0 g/l acid.

This wine is sold directly at the winery, in a number of selected Wine Private wine stores.
